Here is a picture of me doing what I love at the Kairos 2008 Winter Retreat. We rented a sound system from Capital Media. They setup the soundsystem while I just had to connect the inputs and man the mixing board. System worked great, though I made the mistake of not putting the CD Recorder on a battery backup. We had a power interruption during the Saturday evening talk that interrupted the Disc-write session. As a result, I learned the hard way that it is rather arduous to try to recover the data written to an unfinished CD-R disc.

Here is a picture of me doing what I love. In this picture, I'm actually troubleshooting a powerpoint presentation that needs to be projected for the service. (See the projector duct taped to the equipment case in the background.) This was taken from the last Kairos winter retreat that took place earlier in 2007.

As of July 4th, I will be moving for the first time since I graduated college back in 2004! I never thought it would take so long to move out of my parent's house, but now I am! I will be moving in with Mr. Dave Sparks, who is a fellow Kairosian, a Greek Texan, and a brother in Christ! He is also in my men's group. So we will be getting to know each other a lot more over the next year as I move into his Condo off of Duke Street in Alexandria. Look forward to some great get-togethers in the near future. (Dave is an excellent cook! You've got to try his chili!)

Hello! To keep you up to date on the life of Patrick Bean, this blog was created. As of May 2004, Patrick graduated from the University of Hartford with a B.S. in Audio Engineering Technology and an A.S. in Electronic Engineering Technology. He then spent a couple weeks in the Dominican Republic where he stayed at the Student's International Base in Jharabacoa and worked with a construction team to build a fence for a school playground. While there, he worked with students from Berkeley College and St. Mary's College in California. After going home to live with his parents in Falls Church, VA, Patrick found his first job in Alexandria working at Lion and Fox Recording Studios. He had the privilege of working for Jim Fox, who is President of the company and an outstanding Recording Engineer. Patrick also worked with a few other outstanding engineers: Chief Engineer and GM Rob Buhrman, Composer/Arranger (and Patrick’s Supervisor in Digital Audio Post Production) Karen Blackall, and Recording/Mixing/Mastering Engineer Mike Caplan. Patrick worked mostly in digital postproduction mastering media for the Teaching Company. During Patrick’s first year back home, he got more involved in Kairos, a young adult fellowship that meets for worship Sunday evenings at The Falls Church. (The church he grew up in) He is now involved in a men’s small group that meets every other Wednesday evening and discusses readings from the Bible and other various theological writings such as G.K. Chesterton’s Orthodoxy, and C.S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity. They also share what is going on in their lives and pray together. He also volunteered to help with the Sound Team for Kairos and eventually took over as the Sound Team leader after Mr. Loren Ayer left with his family to go to Maine to help start the Eleuthero ministry with the Claytons and the Bantas. Mr. Bean has also joined the Prayer at the Rail team where he gets the privilege of praying with any and all who are seeking prayer at the worship gatherings.
About one year later, Mr. Bean picked up a part-time job working at INOVA Fairfax Hospital as a Patient Transporter. He has grown to appreciate this job not only for the supplemental income, but also for the opportunities he gets to help patients, nurses and various hospital staff in practical ways—predominantly by transportation through the hospital. Here, he has also made a few more friends.
Not too long after Patrick got the part time job with INOVA, Lion and Fox downsized and moved to College Park, Maryland. He then went on to get a new full-time job working for Swank Audio Visuals where he worked predominantly at the Wyndham Washington hotel in NW DC as an A/V Technician. (Though, the hotel recently was bought out by Columbia Sussex) He learned about new equipment and being able to set-up the equipment for clients to create successful meetings. He also enjoyed working with all his Swank co-workers and hotel staff. Again, Mr. Bean has made a few more friends.
Patrick worked for Swank Audio Visuals about 7 months before being approached by his fellow Kairos Sound team volunteer, Steve Santonicola, with an offer to work for him and his company, Trident Systems. As of April 10th, 2006, Patrick now works full time for Trident as an Audio Video Engineer helping to Support current A/V systems, Install and Integrate new components to the systems, and Design new A/V systems.
Also in recent developments, Patrick has rekindled a passion for playing soccer! Under the leadership of Team Captain Katie Whitehead, Patrick joined a spring team through Kairos and District Sports. They came in 5th place out of 12 in the league standings with a total of 10 points. Then due to Katie having to step down as team Captain, Patrick stepped up for the summer league team. The team is called team “Kairos” or “Kairo” for short. They play at Petworth Field in NW DC, with 7v7 teams on Saturday afternoons for games. Support is encouraged.
So that is what Mr. Bean has been doing since he graduated from the University of Hartford. Feel free to check this blog from time to time to see what else he has been up to and don’t forget to update him on your life!
